IIf you wanna get REALLY lethal as a marketer, I think there’s a few main routes that you can take (ideally you do a little bit of each of these):
1) Work for a REALLY good marketing team
It’s very difficult to be a self-taught fullstack marketer.
When you work with really big and dialed in marketing teams, you have access to a ton of data and are able to see all of the systems and processes for a team at scale.
You have a very fast feedback loop and a strong understanding of lead indicators + lag indicators.
For example:
If you work for me and are a part of my team, you have access to:
- 5 different VSL funnels
- A webinar funnel
- Google ads and
- A low ticket recurring subscription
You're also seeing over $1M in revenue generated per month...
You're seeing which ads are producing that revenue...
...and you're putting significant spend behind your own ads as well.
You’re probably not going to get paid a lot of money as an in-house marketer but this is more of a “skillset” play.
A killer CMO or fullstack marketer can 100% clear a 7 figure personal take home income if they know what they’re doing.
…and one of the few ways to TRULY know what you’re doing is to work with people who actually DO know what they’re doing.
2) Ecom/Affiliate
I started out in ecom back in 2017 and that’s where my initial training in copywriting and media buying took place.
Ecom marketers simply HAVE to be really good because their margins are razor thin.
I’ve been diving back into ecom/affiliate stuff this year and it was a major wakeup call to me in terms of how easy it is to run VSL funnels compared to direct to sale funnels.
When you do ecom, you spend WAY more time swiping, you pump out WAY more creative, and you cut campaigns much faster.
If you run a high ticket sales model, a business owner can be a pretty average marketer but still crush it because they’re really good at sales.
It’s basically impossible to crush it in ecom/affiliate if you’re not an elite marketer.
3) Spend uncomfortable amounts of money on ads
If you’ve ever ran a $10K/day+ adspend budget before AND it’s your own credit card on the line…
Then you know how stressful it is and how it puts your back is up against the wall.
One bad week can massacre you.
But that kind of pressure can also force you to perfect your craft and get really good at what you do.
So if you wanna become a killer marketer, I would do a mixture of these 3 things.
(ideally you do step #1 and step #2 BEFORE you do step #3 btw)
